Abstract
The present paper is concerned with the non-linear static and dynamic simulation of tensegrity structures. In particular, the spatial finite element discretization of tensegrity structures, the inclusion of inhomogeneous DIRICHLET boundary conditions and the time integration will be discussed. After the determination of the reference geometry and initial stress state by geometrically non-linear static analyses the non-linear dynamic simulation will be performed by discontinuous and continuous GALERKIN time integration schemes with arbitrary order of accuracy. SNELSON helix structures and a model of the tensegrity tower in Rostock will be used as representative examples for tensegrity structures.
