Abstract
The lack of wind loading data for designers of fabric structures can mean that pressure coefficients are being over- or underestimated greatly, producing designs which are neither the most efficient nor economical. The results obtained from wind tunnel tests on a square based conic roof indicate that the pressure coefficients can be both larger and smaller compared to code values for the most similar shapes and that the equivalent canopy mulit-bay reduction factors are smaller than the code values. Future work aims to compare these results with those from Fluent, a Computational Fluid Dynamics package, to indicate the reliability of CFD for wind engineering problems. This will also allow future studies of fluid-structure interaction issues, determining any increase in loading due to deformations in the roof shape.
