Abstract
A review of the progress in the stability analysis and design of concrete shells in the last two decades is presented. The decisive developments in the finite element analysis is stressed, but not examined in detail, since it is outside the scope of this review. Main attention is directed to the review of some approximate methods of buckling design of shells typically embodied in recommendations, guidelines or codes, primarily the IASS Recommendations of 1979 and the Kollár IASS Proposal of 1993. These two approaches are discussed in detail, and further modifications to the procedure are offered. The procedure is summarized in Section 5.
