Abstract
The responses of uniform support excitation and multiple support excitations of the National Stadium for 2008
Olympic games in Beijing are studied, in which the uniform excitation and spatially varying excitations in two
horizontal and vertical directions are considered, respectively. The time history analysis method is applied, and
spatially varying ground motion time histories are simulated. It is found that the uniform ground motion cannot
represent the critical cases for the response of National Stadium structure. Multiple support excitations, which
is a more realistic assumption, may result in larger displacements and forces in some cases or smaller
displacements and forces in others.
