Parametric forms of roundness metrics of curves and surfaces are presented for designing aesthetically efficient ribbed shells that are used for roofs of large-span structures. The ribbed shells are modeled by using Bézier curves and surfaces. The roundness measures of the boundary curves and ribs are evaluated based on the pers¬pective transformation corresponding to distributed eye points. The multi-objective optimization problem for minimizing the roundness metrics of the curves and surfaces is converted into a single-objective optimization problem by using the -constraint approach. Effectiveness of the proposed metrics is demonstrated in the exam¬ples of shells with one and three ribs.
