Abstract
The structural design procedure for a huge municipal statue in China is introduced. The statue is composed of three long curved cantilevers based on the aesthetic idea of an artist. The eccentric gravity of the specially shaped statue causes large bending moment in the supporting structure. For light weight design, a spatial truss system with welded spherical joints is chosen as the main structure and a nonlinear spatial frame model is employed to analyze the welded truss system based on Chinese codes.
