Abstract
This paper describes original form-finding methods devoted to the computation of minimal forms such as minimal length networks and minimal area surfaces. Based on an extrapolation of density methods, the used approaches ensure mechanical stability of the performed configurations. Modifications of force density coefficients within an interactive process leads to the determination of uniform tension nets which are also of minimal lengths. Several examples illustrate the potential of the procedure. Investigation of minimal area surfaces relies on the Surface Stress Density Method. An iterative approach where convenient surface stress density coefficients are chosen allows the form-finding of uniform stress surfaces and thus minimal area configurations. Numerous examples including varying boundary conditions are also presented in order to underline the method's efficiency.
