Abstract
The main interest of the paper is a reflection on the development of the form-structure relation. Its trajectory evolves from the form with structural attributes to a structure whose attributes extend beyond their basic function to answer to the needs of formal expression. This reflection has been developed in relation to the following themes: - the teachings of structure to architecture students - the theory of structures enriched by the understanding of the structural forms existing in nature - the constructive rationalism in architecture We note that the meaning of "evolution" in the realm of science is well-defined contrarily to that of aesthetics. It determine us to consider "the beautiful" as a constant, whereas the structure evolves with scientific discoveries and the development of technique. In this evolution we search for an idea, ever renewable, for a holistic model of architectural work.
