Abstract
A review of the development of spatial structures in China is presented in this paper. Different forms of spatial structures have been used for buildings requiring large spaces. Long-span constructions, namely sports buildings, have constituted the main part of the growth of spatial structures. The history of development is discussed for reinforced concrete shells and folded slabs, double- and multiple-layer grids, lattice shells, cable structures, and membrane structures. The statistical data of the last four types are depicted in figures. Some special features related to the rapid progress of spatial structures in China are also discussed.
