Abstract
In this paper, 'ring beams' are considered as a new usage for tensegrity structures. A tensegrity ring beam can co function with a cable dome to form a truly self stressed, self equilibrium tensegrity system. Based on this design,the necessity of reinforcement has been studied, together with influence factors as the depth of the simplex, cable stiffness, strut prestress, etc. especially the prism rotation angle and direction of nodal force. In addition to the construction convenience, its structural efficiency has been proved in the case study. Tensegrity ring beam, as a feasible design, will expand the application range of the tensegrity structures.
