In the past two decades, lattice shells have been developed rapidly with new forms and widespread application in China. Due to their advantages including large structural rigidity, light self-weight, novel appearance, and low construction cost, they are now the most widely used type of space structures for long-span buildings. In this paper, a brief history of the development of lattice shells in China is first reviewed. Then classifications and representative projects are introduced. Some topics, such as characteristics and practice of new types of lattice shell, analysis methods, new types of joints, and erection methods, are also discussed. Prospects for lattice shells in the new century are presented at the end of the paper.
