Abstract
A genetic algorithm with an immune system (ISGA) to obtain the decent solutions that one of the authors developed is applied to the structural morphogenesis for a free-form grid shell. The decent solutions have comparatively high evaluations. These solutions contain a global optimal solution and local optimal solutions, and maintain the diversity of the design variable space. The use of the decent solutions satisfies a structural rationality, and enriches the designer’s ideas about various structural forms and systems. ISGA obtains a solution set with a high evaluation satisfying the diversity of the solutions concerning both the objective function space and the design variable space. The decent solutions obtained here will work effectively as one means of structural morphogenesis. The effectiveness of the generation of forms and systems using the decent solutions for a free-form grid shell structure model is clarified using the obtained numerical results.
