Abstract
This paper investigates the earthquake response of a latticed dome supported by braces of deteriorated stress-strain relationships due to buckling. The aim is to propose an efficient estimation method for static seismic loads. The method is based on an equivalent linearization method, where nonlinear stress-strain relationships are linearized using equivalent stiffness and damping. Firstly, two main modes, obtained in the equivalent linearization, are selected and superimposed to represent the dynamic behaviour, and two types of static seismic load depending on the intensity of input earthquake are proposedFOne is a seismic load considering mainly the effects of horizontal earthquake motions and the other is a seismic load reflecting the effects of the anti-symmetric vertical responses induced by horizontal earthquake motions. Secondly, the seismic loads are applied to a pushover analysis of the dome, and the responses were compared with those based on a time history dynamic analysis. Finally, the proposed method is shown to be accurate and efficient to estimate static seismic loads as well as for structural proportioning of the members of latticed domes.
