Abstract
This paper discusses load factors to be required in relation to evaluation of reliability in design for buckling of reticulated spherical domes under dead and snow loads. Buckling strength is analyzed as elasto-plastic buckling load in this study. The buckling strength is evaluated based on both elastic buckling strength and plastic strength. Several roofs with a span around 60 to 100 meters are analyzed for reliability considering 100-year reference period for safety evaluation and 100-year return period for its basic value of snow load. The analysis method for reliability adopted is advanced first-order and second-moment method, and not only external loads but also Young’s modulus, yield strength of material, sectional area of members, knockdown factor for elastic buckling load, and several related structural factors are treated probabilistic parameters. The global load factor is evaluated in terms of reliability index.
