Abstract
Typical of single layer membrane structures is the reduced insulation against heat and cold. The paper presents the design of a prestressed membrane structure based on a translucent, multi-layer, doubly-curved membrane structure with high thermal insulation properties. A demonstration building was installed during the summer of 2012 and has been tested since January 2013 to show the possibilities of textile structures for energy harvesting. The demonstra¬tion building shows a solution based on textiles and foils as solar-thermal active membranes, including the storage system for heating the inner space of the building during winter in the south of Germany.
