IASS Symposium 2010
TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT STRUCTURES FOR EXPO
November 8-12, 2010.  Shanghai, China

OBJECTIVES
World EXPO 2010 will be held in Shanghai. Many new types of shell and spatial structures are expected to be constructed for the EXPO. This symposium provides an opportunity for architects, structural engineers, builders and researchers to present and discuss recent advances on analysis, design and realization related with shell and spatial structures. Technical tours will be arranged to visit EXPO projects in Shanghai. A special session on EXPO buildings will be included.
 

THEMES
The Symposium embraces all aspects of shell and spatial structures, including at least the following topics:
• Buildings for EXPO: history reviews, functional requirements, temporary buildings, permanent buildings, projects introduction;
• Architectural design and morphology: conceptual design, form finding, free form shell, design tools;
• Materials: new materials, properties of materials, material tests, material modeling, reuse of materials;
• Structural system: shells, spatial trusses and lattices, membrane structures, cable structures, tensegrity system, hybrid structures, retractable and deployable structures;
• Analysis: analytical methods, computational methods, form finding, static and dynamic analysis, stability, optimization;
• Structural design: seismic design, wind effects, Computer-aid-design, details;
 • Realization: construction, fabrication and prefabrication, monitoring and control;
• Others: historical buildings, disaster mitigation, maintenance and rehabilitation, fire protection.

Submission of abstracts: Feb 28, 2010
Notification of acceptance:   Mar 28, 2010
Submission of final papers:    Jul 30, 2010
Notification of final acceptance:  Aug 31, 2010
Early registration: Sep 15, 2010
Conference:      Nov 8-12, 2010

LANGUAGE
English is the official language for both oral and written presentation. No simultaneous language translation will be provided in the Symposium.
 

VENUE
The Symposium will be held at Jin Jiang Tower Hotel which is in the heart of Shanghai city.
