Instructions for Contributors to the Journal of the IASS
The Journal of the IASS welcomes contributions on topics related to shell and spatial structures as described by the Aims and Scope of the J. IASS.
All material submitted for publication shall be evaluated as to editorial and technical content by a rigorous peer review process that enlists member and non-members of the Editorial Committee. The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Committee, reserves the right to accept or reject any manuscript.
All contributions should be sent directly to the IASS Secretariat in Madrid, Spain. The preferred form of submission for all contributions is electronic as a Microsoft Word .doc file, but alternatively an Adobe .pdf file may be submitted. The preferred mode of submission is directly uploading through the Submit Manuscript capability of the Online Journal page of this website. If this mode of submission is not feasible, the manuscript may be attached to an e-mail message to iass@cedex.es or mailed on a CD, memory stick, or diskette that can be read by a PC-computer under the Windows operating system. (In the unlikely event that it is not possible to submit the manuscript electronically, the text shall be typed on one side of standard A4-size sheets. The photographs and figures size and quality shall be suitable for direct reproduction and may be in full color. Submit the original manuscripts of text, photographs, figures, and tables. In addition, submit lists of figures/photos and tables with appropriate captions and titles.)
TECHNICAL PAPERS AND REPORTS OF NOTEWORTHY PROJECTS
Contributions must contain material previously not published, or not readily available to the members of the Association. Submittal of a manuscript shall be interpreted as (1) asserting that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere and (2) constituting a grant of publication rights to the IASS. If the contribution contains materials bearing a copyright, author must submit documentation from each copyright holder granting permission to reproduce such material in the Journal.
An MS Word template and instructions for papers and project reports may be downloaded in the following three files:
It is preferable that authors use the template to compose their contributions directly in the two-column form for publication with equations, tables, and figures & photos embedded in the manuscript document and with figure/photo captions and table titles included. The use of color is encouraged. If some equations or figures are too wide for the two-column format, they may extend across the width of the page as long as the exterior margins of the template are maintained.
The maximum length of manuscripts shall be the equivalent of about 14 pages. Brevity is most strenuously encouraged. The organization of all manuscripts shall be as follows:
Title
Author(s) (name, affiliation, address, & e-mail address [addresses required])
Abstract (less than approximately 200 words)
Keywords (maximum about 8)
Notation (where applicable or needed; may be in an appendix)
Introduction (section numbered 1, including scope of the paper and statement of the problem)
Text (divided into numbered sections and sub-sections)
Conclusions (the last numbered section)
Acknowledgements (where appropriate)
References (in the format specified in the downloaded documents)
Appendices (where applicable)
Authors of accepted papers will receive free of charge an electronic reprint in the form of a printable .pdf file after publication of the article in the Journal. Be also aware that such a file will be downloadable to any member or subscriber from the online journal site on the members-only portion of these webpages.
DISCUSSIONS
Discussion of all technical papers published in the Journal of the IASS is encouraged, and after review will be published possibly together with a response from the author(s). The deadline for submittal of the written discussion is eight months from the date of publication of the original paper. The maximum length of a discussion should be the equivalent of about 6 pages. The guidelines of manuscript preparation and electronic submission that apply to technical papers shall apply also to discussion manuscripts. References cited in the original paper should not be repeated, but should be cited by the original number; while new references should be numbered to continue the original sequence. The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Committee, reserves the right to accept or reject any discussion, but such rejection of discussion is reserved for unusual cases of non-professional dialogue.
BOOKS FOR REVIEW
Authors of books related to shell, spatial or lightweight structures may submit a review copy to the IASS Secretariat. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to select an appropriate reviewer.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOOK REVIEWERS
For the convenience of book reviewers an MS Word template (IASS_Journal_Book_Review_Template.dot, 30 KB) with embedded instructions is available here for download.
