Abstract
In the period after the Second World War, prestressed concrete was increasingly used for bridge and shells. The prerequisites for this were the development of a sufficiently applicable theory, availability of high-tensile steels and concretes as well as suitable and safe tensioning methods. In order to determine the structural behaviour of these geometrically demanding shell-structures model tests were performed. The methods of further development of the shell construction by means of prestressed concrete is of interest in a time in which no computerized predictions were possible. With three selected objects: a shell dome, a concave dome and a saw-tooth roof, the structural design of the roof, the tensioning method and the support of the design process with experimental methods are described.
