Abstract
In this paper, we present the development of a NFDM plugin for Rhino/Grasshopper environment, that allows quick and robust parametric generation of bending-free shapes, either reticulated or continuous, which we subsequently optimize using other Grasshopper plugins (Karamba and Galapagos). Even though convergence of genetic algorithm is usually slower that of gradient optimization methods, we found that the combination of NFDM shape generation and genetic algorithms offers a robust and overall quick procedure to select efficient yet formally appealing shell geometries.
