Abstract
This paper presents an effective method to optimize structural forms by self-organization algorithm. Self-Organization is phenomenon which autonomously generates an orderly state from a random state and can be seen in nature. It can be seen in the field of structural optimization as example of application for optimization too. In order to show the effectiveness of the self-organization algorithm for structural form optimization, framed structures with the nodes that are limited to movement on a given surface are analyzed by using our method as examples of uniform of member length problems. Moreover, the method is extended, and the extended method is applied to the minimization of strain energy problem. The methods is implemented by 'Grasshopper' which runs within 'Rhinoceros'.
