Abstract
In recent years, a large number of architectures of large-span RC shell structure have appeared with special aesthetic performance. Datong Grand Theatre in Shanxi Province enjoys a maximum span of 45 meters for its roof, 49 meters for Shanghai Zendai Himalayas Center, 70 meters for the entrance of Shijiazhuang planning library and even 75 meters for its main library. According to a comprehensive analysis of the design, and construction of these three irregular large-span RC shell structures, a set of design method has been concluded which could be applied to the roof of large-span RC shell structure, including modeling, statics of structure in preliminary design phase, structural elasticity and elasto-plastic seismic analysis, temperature stress analysis of large RC structure, buckling analysis of shell structure and creep problems of concrete, the way of drawing concerning to location of space sectioning in the phase of construction design. By analysis in advanced threedimensional simulation, structure test and analysis of structural performance index, this study provides a performance-oriented design for irregular large-span RC roof which could be regarded as a reference for structure design of the same type.
