Abstract
This paper discusses load factors to be required in evaluation of reliability index in design for buckling of reticulated spherical domes under dead and snow loads. Buckling is considered ultimate limit strength in this study. The ultimate strength is evaluated based on both of the elastic buckling strength and plastic strength. Several for roofs with a pan around 60 to 100 meters are analyzed considering 100-year reference period for safety evaluation and 100-year return period for its basic value of snow load. The method adopted in the study is advanced first-order and second-moment method, and not only external loads but also Young’s modulus, yield strength of material, sectional area of members, knock down factor for elastic buckling load, and several related structural factors are treated probabilistic parameters. The load factor is evaluated in terms of reliability index and probability of failure.
