Abstract
A new kind of flange connection consisted of self-tapping steel plate and high strength bolt will be used in steel columns of a multistory prefabricated steel-frame structure. There are no regulations on such new kind of flange connection in current Chinese technical codes. Therefore, extensive experimental research on this connection should be taken to demonstrate its’ rationality. In this paper, through the static tests the ultimate bearing capacities and the failure modes of this new-type flange connection were studied. First, the finite element numerical simulation analysis was applied to figure out the ultimate bearing capacity of this new type connection. Second, according to the analysis results, and taking into account the design loads and working conditions, the loading test principles of the static tests were determined. The load-displacement curve was obtained through the static tests. At last, based on the test results, the mechanical performance of this new type flange connection was analyzed, and the applicability of this flange connection used in steel columns was fully demonstrated.
