Abstract
This paper presents a discussion on the design of long-span public buildings with Function of catastrophic earthquake refuge by an engineering case. The determination and evaluation method of the structure’s seismic capability based on elastic-plastic time history analysis under seismic waves with SAP2000 and plastic hinge theory is discussed. The results show that the acceleration peak values of fortification catastrophic earthquake suggested as 400gal, 540 gal, 670 gal, 810 gal, 950 gal, 1080 gal corresponding to 6 to 9 degree seismic fortification zone in China is feasible for the catastrophic earthquake shelters; The determination method of the seismic capability of the structure under single seismic wave used in the engineering case here is applicable; the evaluation method on the seismic capability of the structure based on the elastic-plastic time history analysis is feasible, and its accuracy depends on the number of selected seismic waves.
