Abstract
Welded hollow spherical joints are widely used in latticed shells. Calculation model of space beam elements jointing rigidly at nodes is adopted in FEM analysis at present, but the influence of welded hollow spherical joints is ignored. In this paper, shell181 element in ANSYS software was chosen to simulate steel tubes and spherical joints, then a refined FEM structure model of a Kiewitt-6-2 latticed dome was established, and nonlinear analysis considering geometrical nonlinear and material elasticity-plasticity was carried out. By comparing refined analysis with traditional beam element analysis, plastic stress distribution, detailed failure mode and limit load were concluded. With a good deal of parameters comparison, impacting factors such as thickness and diameter of welded hollow spherical joints and structural initial imperfection were discussed, and the influence characteristic was revealed. Then some suggestions for FEM analysis and design of latticed dome with welded hollow spherical joints were put forward.
