Abstract
Tianjin National Convention & Exhibition Center is in construction in Tianjin, China now. The entrance hall is the representative building of the Exhibition center, with a plan view size of 141.3mX285.3m, and the height is 32.8m. 32 identical tree structures comprise the Entrance Hall, and make it a unique building. According to the architecture design, the size and shape of the structure members are significant for the architectural effect, the cross-section of the column is X shaped, and the boundary beam’s section is L shaped. To reduce the steel usage, thin wall members are used, and longitudinal and lateral stiffeners are designed to keep the local stability of the members. The finite element analysis proved the validity of this structure measures. The detailed structure layout and the result of the analysis are shown in the paper. Joint design is another problem. The joint connects the column and the branches are relatively slim, which makes it the weakness of the structure. Finite element analysis is used to confirm that the joint bearing capacity meet the requirement of the Code.
