Abstract
Buckling mode interaction of elastic systems and the associated effect of initial imperfections on their behavior is investigated. Firstly, a 2-DOF model whose independent buckling modes present stable and unstable post-buckling response is studied analytically in order to demonstrate through a simple example the coupling phenomena in the presence of imperfections. In the second part of the paper, the interaction between global and local buckling of a thin-walled column is presented, as an application of the aforementioned phenomenon in an actual structural system.
