Abstract
The paper introduces a new concept for self-supporting panels made out of doubly curved layers of thin metal sheets, enabling the realization of lightweight freeform shell structures. The concept is developed under simultaneous consideration of structural performance and manufacturing routines. The production process is implemented in a single machine setup and successfully tested on a small-scale assembly, serving as initial proof-of-concept. Further investigations concern the generalization of the production process and the application of the concept to building-scale example.
