Abstract
A new type of truss system with inflated membrane struts(IMS) was presented in this paper. In the truss, the IMSs are used directly as compression bearing members, such as upper chords and struts, while cables are used as tensioning members. The finite element analysis and experiment of the IMS were carried out. The performance, bearing capacity and critical load of the IMS were discussed. A loading test of an 8-meter span truss was conducted and the simplified analysis method for truss system and its bearing capacity were proposed.
