Abstract
The cause of the sudden collapse of 3tons strip of suspended ceiling in a swimming arena is discussed. Although the Japanese ministry quickly mentioned the cause was accumulated damage by the past earthquake the authors carried out the independent investigation with more careful observation and numerical simulation, and found that the collapse was more likely caused by the accumulation of the thermal deformation.
