Abstract
Some models have already been developed to describe the behaviour of an inflatable beam. These models are able to predict the displacement before the beam folds and the wrinkling load. Some models also establish the collapse load. This paper proposes a new analytical formulation for the collapse which agrees with experimental results. This new model is illustrated via a numerical test. The Virtual Image Correlation (VIC) method consists in finding an analytical contour that best fits the physical boundary of an object. The method lies on a minimization between two images (the first one is physical and the second one is virtual). The VIC is then extended to become an inflatable-specialized measure tool.
